Hero Blurb

My mom was born on June 11, 1959.
Her father died when she was only three, leaving her single mother to tend to four other children as well as a business. In time, the same thing soon followed, except with a divorce. She has shown me constant effort, and love. And I greatly appreciate that everyday.

Picture

I chose this photo because it shows Alice Dellal shaving the side of her head. Its one of her trademarks and I completely love it. Its Morbid Beauty. Its something some people would find taboo. I also chose this photo because I have a liking for the books by Lewis Carrol, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass, books I have read numerous times. This only comes along because the girl's name in the photograph is Alice, so I see Alice Dellal as a modern day Alice Liddell.

epiccc

An epic, in my words, would have to be something of great length, importance, or magnitude, along the lines of that. Something of "epic" proportions. An emotion perhaps. Something that would be challenging, and would take a long while to overcome, or maybe not. Something of great importance to the being. An epic battle, a certain moment, a heated fight, a secret love affair. It will go down in history to the being that experienced it. The being will recall whatever it is without hesitation. Fiery emotion! Not just a moment in time, but an epic moment. Not just a tragedy, but an epic tragedy. Something huge. Doesn't have to be a long, but is mind blowing in a way. Shock and awe. Sadness and awesome force. I also think that epic is a word that doesn't necessarily have to deal with huge things. Little things can make a big difference!

1. A heated moment.

Lines 254 - 259
"By this scepter I swear:
When every last Greek desperately misses Achilles,
Your remorse won't do any good then,
When Hector the man-killer swats you down like flies.
And you will eat your heart out
Because YOU failed to honor the best Greek of All."

2. Something of great length, importance, etc...

Lines 318-319
"So it was a stand-off, their battle of words
And the assembly beside the Greek ships dissolved."

Lines 61 - 65
"Nine days the god's arrows rained death on the camp.
On the tenth day Achilles called an assembly.
Hera, the white-armed goddess, planted the thought in him
Because she cared for the Greeks and it pained her
To see them dying."

3. Strong emotion

Lines 217-220
"I came to see if I could check this temper of yours,
Sent from heaven by the white-armed goddess
Hera, who loves you and watches over both of you men.
Now come on, drop this quarrel, don't draw your sword."

I choose a couple of photos that somehow, in a strange way remind me of "epic".

There are many emotions going on is this photograph. I don't really understand why I choose this particular photo. I think it has to do with friendship and how there are many epic moments in a friendship or, an epic friendship. I love how the two girls are pumping the water for their other friends, while touching the other girl's face. Something about this picture just screams importance to me.

Heres a good example of strong emotion. Something so simple, but so strong and straight forward. Someone is clearly stating their opinion, that I am all for. You know their point exactly. Something epic. Something I will remember, honestly, for forever.

Here is one of my favorite photos. History in the making. It's just simply, Amazing. Beautiful. Breathtaking. E-P-I-C.

This photo is grotesquely beautiful. ( If you couldn't tell all ready, she was hit by a car, and split in half ) She doesn't look dead, which is again, sadly beautiful. But she is dead... This photo reminds me of "epic" for many reasons. Think what the photographer felt. His emotions. Imagine the person who hit the woman. Feel their emotions as they realize they killed someone. They will surely never forget that for as long as they live. A short, but epic moment, changed someone's life forever.

my public "hero"

Honestly, I don't have a hero. But since I must choose, I would say that Quanah Parker is my public "hero".

Quanah was born from a white mother, Cynthia Ann Parker, and a Native American father, Comanche Chief Peta Nocona. He was the chief of the last plains tribe to "surrender" to white authority. The People looked up to him. Although he adjusted to the reservation life, it was a bloody journey. Quanah Parker was one of the few Chiefs to fully adjust to the so-called "American Way of Life". Quanah never signed a "peace-treaty", for he knew of the lies and false promises. He had to watch his people suffer from diseases and wars that the white men had brought. He, as well as many others, went through the unbearable ordeal of witnessing the end of the golden age of the Native Americans. He is one of my "heroes" for many reasons. But over all I think he was just a great guy(haha). A hero to many, a villain to some.

Yes, I am an American, but I am ashamed by our pass. Although my family originally does not come from America, I still respect the right of being able to live in this country. I think its just crazy that people from the east coast, who invaded these lands, thought that they owned the land. They thought that the Native Americans where "savages". I think that the people who were invading were the savages. They were the ones who were killing the Native Americans. But, of course the Native Americans fought back. Killing the invaders. Silly thing to do, fight fire with fire, but I don't think, from history, that the white men would have listened to them. Thinking that they were "savages", they thought they could be bribed with gifts. It's pathetic. I would love to live back then, before the arrival of white men, and live in peace with everyone and the earth. But I also love living in our times. Although there is still so much hate, pain, racism, sexism, etc. There probably will always be a point in time where at least one of these things are still in existence. Which I just can't understand. It's stupid and crazy.

Sorry, I can go off topic, and sound strange.

3. I enjoy and appreciate old movies. I believe that they are more meaningful, and were forms of art and entertainment, not made to make bucks at the box office. My tv is always on Turner Classic Movies. One of my favorite movies would have to be, "Where The Boys Are"(1960).

4. I love to read books! You'll most likely see me with a book or at least carrying one.

13. I've broken three bones. I tripped over a tricycle when I was in preschool and broke my collar bone. All because some boys were calling me grandma, and I got mad, although I still don't know how I tripped over the tricycle. And one time I broke my pinkie finger on a couch.
